The Ordinary Mandelic Acid Review

Here is another product review of the popular skincare brand, The Ordinary. The Ordinary Mandelic Acid 10%+HA is my second product from the brand. You can find the review of The Ordinary Buffet here.

It has been a while since I wanted to include AHAs and BHAs in my skincare routine. Since using Korean skincare products, I am sold on the effects of these ingredients for effective skin exfoliation, when compared to physical exfoliants.

The most poular of their products is the AHA 30%+ BHA 2% peeling solution, which is a red coloured liquid. Since this is my first chemical exfoliants, I didn’t want to go with high percentages. Hence I chose the Mandelic Acid 10% + HA.

What is Mandelic Acid

It is an AHA (Alpha Hydroxy Acid) derived from bitter almonds. It is gentler than glycolic acid. It generally helps with acne, wrinkles and pigmentation issue. Compared to lactic, glycolic and salicylic acids; mandelic acid has a lower strength due to its higher molecular weight. Hence it is less likely to cause irritation and has long lasting effect on skin.

In addition to mandelic acid, this solution has Hyaluronic acid 10%. HA, as you know is a humectant that can absorb moisture. It is naturally present in our body, especially in tissues.

Ingredients in the Ordinary Mandelic Acid+10% HA:

Propanediol, Aqua (Water), Mandelic Acid, Glycerin, Dimethyl Isosorbide, Sodium Hyaluronate Crosspolymer, Tasmannia Lanceolata Fruit/Leaf Extract, Pentylene Glycol, Polysorbate 20, Sodium Hydroxide, Ethylhexylglycerin, 1,2-Hexanediol, Caprylyl Glycol.

Texture:

Similar to Olive Squalenelight and gets eaesily absorbed.

My experience with Mandelic Acid:

The product is a colourless solution that comes in an amber glass bottle with a dropped. It is suggested to be used everyday in the PM routine. It is advisable to dilute this with a moisturiser, so that you can identify if your skin is sensitive to the product. I directly apply three drops on my face neck after applying the Neogen essence.

The next morning I find my skin much softer and even toned. It is essential to use sun protection after using this, for next couple of days because skin can be extra sensitive. Since I always use an SPF before stepping out, it is not an extra effort.

I have been using this for over three months now and still almost 80% of product is left. Only few drops is enough to cover the face and neck and the product has to be applied only upto twice a week, like any other exfoliant.

Verdict:

Highly effective, affordable and gentle exfoliant. I would highly recommend this product incase you have cystic acne, uneven skin tone or texture on skin. Make sure you apply this only at night and just twice a week. Always use this after applying a toner, essence or light weight moisturiser.
