How to buy Korean skincare products in India

https://web.archive.org/web/20191118054718im_/http://flavoursofbeauty.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/03/IMG_20190301_201252_Bokeh-01-2000×1200.jpeg

Korean skin care has been popular for while now and the Korean skincare products has a huge consumer base in India. Korean 7 skin method, double cleansing, sheet masks, layering of products, fermented ingredients, glass skin and honey skin have all been and remain in trend.

For those of you who are already familiar with the Kbeauty products, the major concern is where to buy these products from. There are many re-sellers in India, who stock up these products and sell them at a higher price in India, especially via Instagram.

This blog post is about how I bought products directly from websites without paying any extra charge on price or customs.

Jolse | Korean Cosmetics Online Shop

Jolse is an Online cosmetics platform, where you can purchase Korean skincare products at a cheaper price. They run offers for most of the popular brands like Cox Rx, Etude House, Skin Miso, Missha, Innisfree, Neogen to name a few. In addition to this you get a discount when you first sign up.

It has been almost an year since I purchased from Jolse, and I have not used up wither of these products yet. These days they have better offers. Currently there is a free worldwide shipping + free gifts offer with every purchase.

How I purchased products without paying Shipping charge or Customs charge:

If you keep your purchase to within 35$, you can skip the

You can find the billing info below:

https://web.archive.org/web/20191118054718im_/http://flavoursofbeauty.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/03/Jolse.jpg

In total for a 41.82 order I payed 30.96 USD including shipping charges.

To give you context, Indian sellers like Beautybarn sells the CosRX product for 1450Rs, where as here I paid around just 1060Rs for it.

I got the products within 2-3 weeks and I faced no issues with the order.

So if you want to get hold of the products fast, you can go for trusted resellers in India. But if cost is your concern, you can go for sites like Jolse.

Some other sites you can check are TesterKorea, Koreadepart and Sweetcorea. You can add to cart all the products you wish to buy and see which of these sites provides the cheapest option.

Soko Glam

Soko glam and Charlotte are the most familiar names in Korean skincare. I have watched almost all her Youtube videos on Korean skincare and products.

If you are a beginner in Korean skincare, you can get curated skincare products for your skin type or concern from Sokoglam. Also most of the high performing products available here are exclusive to Sokoglam. You will not find them in other sites.

Charlotte is also involved in creating highly effective skincare products by teaming up with popular skincare brands. Two of such products are the Neogen real ferment micro essence which ahs 93% fermented ingredients and CosRx Triple C lightening liquid, which has 20.5% pure vit C.

I have been eyeing these products for a while, but Soko glam is a site where there is rarely any shipping offers for international shipping. And then came Black Friday sale last October and I purchased these two products. So it is best to wish list the products you like and wait for such special days, if you are not in a hurry. You can save up a lot this way.

But it took around a month for the products to reach me. Actually the first batch of products got stuck in Delhi and didn’t reach me. Sokoglam offered to refund the amount or send the products again. I opted for the products and they reached me within a month. I did not pay any custom for these either.

Their customer support is incredible and there is nothing to worry about incase your product is taking longer to reach you.

That’s it for this small post. Do comment your queries below incase any and also follow us in Insta for more on wellness. Let me know if you would love a detailed post on Korean skincare or review of products mentioned in this post.

Millet in diet : Ragi Idli and Foxtail millet recipes

https://web.archive.org/web/20190629100730im_/http://flavoursofbeauty.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/03/IMG_20190226_093911-01-2000×1200.jpeg

Millet is not a staple diet in Kerala as much it is in Karnataka. The only millet I was familiar with before moving to Karnataka, was Ragi. Because Ragi is a popular baby food. So after moving here, I was quite surprised to know the different ways millet varieties can be added to diet.

Ayurveda

Millet is a grass variety with small seeds. Millet is resilient to infertile soil, droughts and needs minimum care in cultivation. According to Ayurveda millet is light, sweet and dry grain. It balances Kapha but can increase Vata and Pitta in excess. So it is advised to soak the millet in water and cook with cumin and coriander to make it suitable for all Doshas.

Millet is particularly high in minerals like iron, magnesium, phosphorus and potassium. Ragi, or finger millet is the richest in calcium, with about 10 times that of rice or wheat. In general, millets are fairly high on the Glycemic Index (GI) so it is best prepared with a little high quality oil, like pure desi ghee, or with additional high fiber foods, to slow the GI of the whole dish.

NOTE :
If you have Thyroid problems it is better to restrict the Millet intake. Millet is a great alternative to rice for diabetes patients. But incase you have no such condition, millet being a dry crop can increase the Vata and dry out your body. So it is advisable to use it in moderation in diet and also to include it as millet flour, as it is easier to digest by the body.

According to Ayurveda your food should be seasonal and local. So if you are used to eating rice, don’t switch to millet immediately. Especially if it is not locally grown.

Foxtail Millet:

My first attempt in cooking with Millet was with Foxtail variety. It is similar to quinoa in that, it gets fluffy one it absorbs hot water.

Soak the millet in water for an hour. Then add it to boiling water and let it sit for 15-20min. The millet will drink up the water and expand. Use a fork to fluff it and this can be used to prepare dishes like salads and upma. For dishes like Kichdi, Pongal and Payasam you can add the soaked millet with other ingredients in a pressure cooker and cook it.

Foxtail millet doesn’t have any specific taste. So the taste depends on the ingredients you use for the dish.

Ragi:

https://web.archive.org/web/20190629100730/http://flavoursofbeauty.com/img-20190226-wa0010-01/

Finger millet, ragi or panja pullu is my current favorite. The sprouted ragi glour powder with jaggery is my current go to beverage. I thought it would have the flour taste but surprisingly it has a nutty flavour and makes a great drink.

I wanted to try making dosa batter with ragi. So I soaked the whole grains overnight with urad dal and tried grinding it in grinder, like I normally do with rice dosa. Unfortunately, the ragi didn’t grind at all with the Urad dal. So I transferred it to the mixer jar and tried grinding it in mixie. That worked, eventhough it took a while to get it a smooth paste.

So I would advice you to grind urad dal and mix it with Ragi Powder before leaving it to ferment.

Anyway the dosa and idlis turned out great. Especially the idlis were soft and fluffy.

So that’s it on millet. I will add more recipes in the insta page as and when I try new dishes with it. Hope you liked the post.

Korean Skincare Products : The textures in skincare

Korean skincare products are quite different from our Indian skincare products interms of the ingredients and texture. More and more skincare brands across the world, are trying to implement similar formulations in their product line owing to the popularity of Korean skincare.

Korean Skincare Products:

We are familiar with creams, oils, gels, balms and powders and all these have different textures and penetration capabilities on skin. Toners are the lightest of all as they are herbal waters and balms are at the other end of the spectrum.

But when it comes to Korean skincare product texture and its feel on skin is equally given importance. Serums (not just oil based ones), ampoules, essences and sheetmasks come into picture and even within these, the textures differ greatly from product to product. Also chemical exfoliation is preferred over physical exfolication and the AHAs, BHAs and PHAs are loved by most. Terms like glass skin and honey skin came about with the nourished, hydrated, smooth and supple skin which gives a dewy look, achieved with the right products and commited routine.

Textures in Korean Skincare:

Korean skincare gives immense importance to hydration. The layering of products is aimed at retaining the moisture for longer periods, which would eventually help in plumping up the skin and thereby delaying the signs of ageing. The lighter product texture makes it ideal for layering multiple times based on skin type and needs.

A little goes a long way with these products. A drop or two is enough for the face. Also I prefer emulsion and products with water instead of balms. Especially because balms even though concentrated, forms an occulsive layer on skin to prevent lose of moisture but it doesn’t provide any hydration. So if your skin is already dry, it will make it overly parched and oily.

Since this post is on textures, I am not going for a detailed review of these products. I am only including the products I have tried and liked.

Slimy : CosRX Advanced Snail Mucin Power Essence

https://web.archive.org/web/20200205080740im_/http://flavoursofbeauty.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/03/IMG_20190313_154313-01-768×1223.jpeg

This essence has a texture similar to aloe extract, semi liquid, viscous and is somewhat slimy on touch. Eventhough it has 96% snail mucin as the major ingredient, it is not sticky on skin but takes a little time to get absorbed completely. No color or fragrance.  Snail mucin is known to heal acne, pigmentation, scars and marks and moisturize the skin well.

https://web.archive.org/web/20200205080740im_/http://flavoursofbeauty.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/03/IMG_20190313_122852-01.jpeg

Watery : Neogen Real Ferment Micro Essence

https://web.archive.org/web/20200205080740im_/http://flavoursofbeauty.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/03/IMG_20190202_103110_Bokeh-01-822×1024.jpeg

Unlike CosRX snail mucin essence, this one is watery. No color or fragrance and is extremely light (just like water). If not for its efficacy, the texture would have been a let down for the price. What makes this product popular is the high percentage (93%)of naturally fermented ingredients. It is like a skin tonic.

Watery gel like Emulsion : Skin Food Yuja Water Serum

https://web.archive.org/web/20200205080740im_/http://flavoursofbeauty.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/03/IMG_20190313_154558-01-768×1257.jpeg

I don’t even know the right words to explaing these textures. When I say gel, you might imagine something like aloe gel, which is not the case.

https://web.archive.org/web/20200205080740im_/http://flavoursofbeauty.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/03/IMG-20190313-WA0007-01.jpeg

This serum is not as watery as Neogen essence, not slimy as CosRX essence but not as thick as a lotion either. It is light emulsion with no oiliness and has organic Yuja (a citrus fruit) extract as the major ingredient.

https://web.archive.org/web/20200205080740im_/http://flavoursofbeauty.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/03/IMG-20190313-WA0006-01.jpeg

Light serum : CosRX Triple C Lightning Liquid

This antioxidant rich serum contains 20.5% pure vitamin C (ascorbic acid) and 72% black chokeberry. This serum is lighter than water, in the sense that it gets absorbed as soon as it is applied. The texture is so light that it just have to be pushed lightly to skin as it won’t remain in skin periphery to massage in. Also it has a faint ascorbic acid smell. This is a cult product as it has fresh Vit C from natural ingredients as well as pure vit c which helps with pigmentation and full skin.

https://web.archive.org/web/20200205080740im_/http://flavoursofbeauty.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/03/IMG-20190313-WA0005-01.jpeg

Apart from these, even the sheet masks comes in different textures. Some are gel like and wobbly, some are like fabrics drenched in essence, some have dispersed ingredient particles in it and so on.  Many of the Korean and Japanese sunscreens also have a light milky gel like texture unlike the common ones that leave oilines or white cast on the skin

So that’s it for this post. Hope you liked it.

Let me know what else you would like to know about Korean skincare regime.

The Ordinary : Buffet review

https://web.archive.org/web/20200923053029im_/http://flavoursofbeauty.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/01/IMG_20190119_141419-01-1962×1200.jpeg

The Ordinary, a Canadian skincare brand is from the parent brand DECIM. The Ordinary range of skincare line has been a huge hit across the world. Mainly because this line focusses on offering clinical technologies in its purest and simplest form. There are no frills in any of the products and hence the price point is quite attractive.

https://web.archive.org/web/20200923053029im_/http://flavoursofbeauty.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/01/IMG_20190119_140801_Bokeh-01-768×1054.jpeg

Let me give you an example. A skincare brand might be marketing their moisturizer with the claim that it has hyaluronic acid or vitamin C. But the actual product will have many many other ingredients including a base, preservatives, colorants, fragrance or in case of a natural product i might have oils, butters, plant extracts etc. The percentage of hyaluronic acid or Vit C could be very less. But The Ordinary range provides you these hero ingredients by itself in simple dropper bottles or tubs, which allows the brand to cut down on other costs, hence making the range affordable.

So this line mainly targets specific skincare problems like hyperpigmentation, wrinkles, dark circles, dullness, dryness etc and is for an informed consumer, who has researched on these ingredients. The range includes Exfoliating Alpha Hydroxy Acids, Cold presser oils, Vit C, Peptide complexes in Antiageing formulas, Moisturizing formulas etc.

https://web.archive.org/web/20200923053029im_/http://flavoursofbeauty.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/01/IMG_20190119_141406-01-768×1229.jpeg

Today I am reviewing the multi peptide anti aging formula from The Ordinary, called Buffet. I did not want to get an active strong ingredient from the range as such products require special care in skincare and should be used with caution. For eg: if you are starting with an acid exfoliator like AHAs, you need to make sure you start at a lower concentration first, say Lactic acid 5% + Hyaluronic acid. Once your skin is accustomed to this, you can increase the concentration gradually or move to stronger AHAs like Glycolic acid. Also since AHAs makes the skin photosensitive, one needs to apply it during the night ideally and use sun protection for the following days.

Eventhough I am a skincare enthusiast, I like it to be a relaxing experience rather than an exhaustive one. So I chose Buffet because it is already a soup of acids, peptids and probiotics and also is a starting point for targeting signs of aging.  I didn’t want to step in to proven solutions like retinoids and Vit C in the beginning. Baby steps.

https://web.archive.org/web/20200923053029im_/http://flavoursofbeauty.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/01/IMG_20190119_141046_Bokeh-01-768×1025.jpeg

Ingredients: Aqua (Water), Glycerin, Lactococcus Ferment Lysate, Acetyl Hexapeptide-8, Pentapeptide-18, Palmitoyl Tripeptide-1, Palmitoyl Tetrapeptide-7, Palmitoyl Tripeptide-38, Dipeptide Diaminobutyroyl Benzylamide Diacetate, Acetylarginyltryptophyl Diphenylglycine, Sodium Hyaluronate Crosspolymer, Sodium Hyaluronate, Allantoin, Glycine, Alanine, Serine, Valine, Isoleucine, Proline, Threonine, Histidine, Phenylalanine, Arginine, Aspartic Acid, Trehalose, Fructose, Glucose, Maltose, Urea, Sodium PCA, PCA, Sodium Lactate, Citric Acid, Hydroxypropyl Cyclodextrin, Sodium Chloride, Sodium Hydroxide, Butylene Glycol, Pentylene Glycol, Acacia Senegal Gum, Xanthan Gum, Carbomer, Polysorbate 20, PPG-26-Buteth-26, PEG-40 Hydrogenated Castor Oil, Trisodium Ethylenediamine Disuccinate, Ethoxydiglycol, Sodium Benzoate, Caprylyl Glycol, Ethylhexylglycerin, Phenoxyethanol, Chlorphenesin.

I know! It doesn’t make sense to most people and I am not going to explain it all. In short these ingredients targets at collagen production, restoring firmess and elasticity, moisturizing etc.

Description : Like an opulent feast for the skin, The Ordinary’s “Buffet” serum features an impressive array of anti-ageing wonders – at a surprisingly tiny price tag. Multiple peptide complexes combine in this lightweight serum to offer a multitude of benefits, including Matrixyl 3000 to stimulate collagen synthesis and hyaluronic acid to offer the heroic hydration that ‘plumps up’ fine lines and diminishes depth of furrows. Working in synergy with 11 skin-friendly amino acids, with regular use this ultra-smoothing serum will reveal nourished, youthful-looking skin.

Packaging : It comes in a translucent glass bottle with simple label and a dropper.

Price : 10.83 pounds (It says 12 pounds on the site but that includes taxes in EU. once you add it to cart and checkout, you will see the final price for your country).  This is not at all pricey considering the ingredients and actives in this. If you find this pricey, the peptide based serums in market from US and K Beauty brands costs anywhere between 14$-35$ atleast.

Their lesser ingredient formulas are much cheaper.

Buy fromCultBeauty website. They have worldwide free shipping offer often (there is one today).

My review:

I have bought The Buffet last year and I almost finised using it. It is a water based serum with a runny consistency (not as runny as water) and three drops is enough to cover the face. There is no color or fragrane and the solution is slightly hazy. I liked how easily the serum gets absorbed into the skin during winter months. But when humidity is high, it feels slightly tacky for 5 min after which it gets absrobed completely.

https://web.archive.org/web/20200923053029im_/http://flavoursofbeauty.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/01/IMG_20190119_141128_Bokeh-01-768×1024.jpeg

I have combination skin type and my skin doesn’t break out often. This serum has to be applied right after cleansing and will last you quite long eenthough you get just 30ml.

https://web.archive.org/web/20200923053029im_/http://flavoursofbeauty.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/01/IMG_20190119_141140_Bokeh-01-768×1024.jpeg

Will I repurchase Buffet : No

I didnot find any incredible changes on using this product. It is a great serum especially for oily skin and is moisturizing without making skin oily. It does improve the quality of skin while you use it but no drastic improvements that would make anyone want to repurcahse this. But this is a great serum to include if you want to follow the K beauty 5 skin or 7 skin layering method. It can be layered based on your skin’s need and will for sure smoothen out skin if you have dry patches.

So incase you are new to this brand, I would suggest you read about the products in depth (there are many many detailed reviews and articles on each product and what skin type it suits) and make an informed decision based on what skin problems you want to target. Their hyaluronic acids, AHAs and Vit C suspensions are in great demand and is concentrated enough to show visible results.

The snail mucin from K beauty brand Cos rx has been another cult favorite and do comment below if you would like a review of the same.

R Zizhi Toss your mane hair mask review

https://web.archive.org/web/20200815200351im_/http://flavoursofbeauty.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/12/IMG_20181231_143330-01-2000×1200.jpeg

Here is my last post for 2018 and it is a review post. I participated in a giveaway by the brand Rzizhi in Instagram and eventhough I didn’t win the free goodies, I got a 15% off offer on their products. I had read rave reviews of their products and I was looking forward to trying them. Since I already had my skincare routine in place and I felt I should try something for my hair. So I chose the Toss your mane hair mayo from their range.

About the brand : Rzizhi is a home based brand that makes fresh batch of products with potent ingredients, to order. “Zizhi” means homemade. Their product range includes face mask, face serums, scrubs, hair care products etc.

My expectations from this mask : Help strengthen and nourish the scalp, fight dandruff and probably help to reduce hair fall due to breakage.

https://web.archive.org/web/20200815200351im_/http://flavoursofbeauty.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/12/IMG_20181231_143330-01-818×1024.jpeg

Ingredients  : Eggyolk, Apple Cider Vinegar, Mustard, Olive oil, Walnut oil, Coconut oil, Nigella seed oil, Black til oil, Argan oil.

Originally priced at : Rs 699

My take on the product:

The hair mayo comes in a sturdy jar and has a label printed with the ingredients list. The product has an achar like smell which is strong but not bothersome to me. The oils gets separated and settles at the top of the jar when kept still, so you have to mix it properly with a dry spatula before application.

https://web.archive.org/web/20200815200351im_/http://flavoursofbeauty.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/12/IMG_20181231_143305-01-1024×1024.jpeg

I have naturally straight hair with slightly oily scalp. Usually I oil my hair thrice a week and cleanse it with a chemical free shampoo.  I am currently using the Vilvah goat milk shampoo, but I don’t think i will repurchase it. The shampoo is too mild for oily scalp and doesn’t wash of oiliness even with by applying it thrice in a wash.

So one thing I learnt from using products over these years is that, even if the ingredients are great in a natural product, it might not work for your skin/hair type and you can only figure it out by using it. Reading reviews will only help to some extend as the efficacy depends also on your skin type, skin condition, climate of the place, exposure to pollutants and sun, water quality, health etc.

Now coming to the Rzizhi hair mayo, it didn’t work for me. Or rather it worked too well for me. I shall explain.

I applied it moderately in scalp by partitioning the hair, and waited for 20min before washing it off with the above mentioned Shampoo. The mayo is quite oily as it is made of many different oils. I washed my hair a couple of time using the cleanser and on air drying, my hair appeared weighed down and oily. It got worse as the day went by and got oilier. So next day I shampooed my hair again, without applying any oil. Even that didn’t help as my scalp still felt oily later the day.  I tried using it in lesser quantity and tried a different hair cleanser but even that didn’t help. Actually I was asked whether I had oiled my hair and forgotten to wash, when I stepped out. Also my husband thought my hair was still wet from the bath. So this is not the product for me.

My verdict is that, this mayo is best suited for people with dry hair/scalp and it does nourish the hair quite well. Might work well for curly haired people as well as a pre-wash conditioner to tame the curls. But definitely not suited for oily scalp. Don’t overdose your scalp with heavy duty products, if it is not right for you. I am back to my lime, oil and vit E mask.

The brand Rzizhi do have many more products and I will for sure try them out in future, as they look promising and has worked wonderfully for many.

Happy New Year to all my readers. I hope 2019 turns out great for you all.

Winter skin care

https://web.archive.org/web/20200924232933im_/http://flavoursofbeauty.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/12/IMG_20181206_190701-01-01-2000×1200.jpeg

The climate is chilly and dry. Our skin and hair tend to get really affected by the change in climate. I have previously written a post on winter skin care regime in 2016  but I should say the only product I still use from the stash is the burt’s bees lip balm.

My skincare regime has evolved over these two years and I am more inclined towards the Korean skin care method of layering products on skin, than using heavy products on skin.

So here are some products I have been using for quite sometime now and the only difference I would make for the Winter, is to layer it more.

https://web.archive.org/web/20200924232933im_/http://flavoursofbeauty.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/12/IMG_20181206_190701-01-768×1024.jpeg

  • Cleanser : Washed ghee(click for review)
  • Toner : Chamomile and Roman Witch Hazel mist from Indulgeo essentials.

Toner for me is to just refresh the skin when it feels dry/dehydrated or dull. A spritz of cool mist wakes up the skin instantly. Here are some of my other favorite toner reviews : Face mists review 1 , Zofla rose water

  • Moisturizer :

Day:

I don’t really get time for an elaborate skin care routine in the morning. So the only product I usually use is the Nivea Super Water Gel Sunscreen with Spf 50 and PA+++.

If there is one product I would suggest you never miss is a good sunscreen. this can prevent photoageing, pigmentation and many other skin related concerns in the long run.

Recently I have started trying the Squalene Skin Hydrator, which is a very light moisturizer ideal for oily skin, from Indulgeo essentials. Shall write a review once I have used it for a while.

Night:

This is when I got about my layering game. I have been using three products from last 4 months and these are:

Buffet from The Ordinary

https://web.archive.org/web/20200924232933im_/http://flavoursofbeauty.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/12/IMG_20180917_202054-01-827×1024.jpeg

Yuja Water Serum from Skin Food which is  vit C serum.

Advanced snail 96 Mucin Power Essence from Cos Rx

https://web.archive.org/web/20200924232933im_/http://flavoursofbeauty.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/12/IMG_20180917_202034-01-825×1024.jpeg

Do comment below incase you would like to know more about Korean skin care and detailed reviews of these products.

Face Mask:

The Skin Yoga Sandalwood and Saffron face mask is the most moisturizing mask I have come across. This would be ideal for normal to extremely dry skin types. Also check out the green tea face mask review, incase you are looking for acne free skin.

Lip balm:

Nuxe lipbalm is the next best thing to Burt’s Bees Lip balm I feel. I bought both The Ordinary Buffet and Nuxe from Cult Beauty website when they had free shipping offer to India. Nuxe is thick and I use it overnight like a lip mask.

Also do use sugar scrubs to exfoliate chapped lips before application.

As for the body, winter is the time for some sloughing and nourishing.

  • Body scrub : Checkout the many many scrub reviews in this blog. You can also make them at home by using ingredients like ground coffee, sugar, salt, rose petal powder etc.
  • Body butter : Again i have reviewed many body butters before. Incase your skin is flaky and dry, body butters work better for the skin in winters.
  • Cold pressed soaps : Using cold pressed soaps make sure that the skin is not stripped off the moisture and it doesn’t dry out the skin. Make sure you stay away from products having foaming agents like SLS and other harsh chemicals.

Hair care:

I warm few drops of JC hair mask or coconut oil and mix few drops of lime juice in it. This mask will help a lot with flaky scalp. Also use a mild hair cleanser. I ma currently using the Vilvah goat milk shampoo, but this is not ideal for oily hair as it is too mild to wash away the oiliness in even two washes.

According to Ayurveda, this is the time to nourish our body and get it ready for the summer months. So it is very necessary to exercise well, eat well and also have regular oil baths to keep the skin protected.

Hope you liked the post. Do follow on Instagram for more skincare tips and healthy food recipes.

How to get glowing skin for Diwali : Rose quartz roller and 108x washed ghee review

Hi readers, it has been a while since I posted something. Since it is Diwali and festivities are starting, here is a detailed post on how to get glowing  skin this Diwali.

If you are an avid skincare lover, you will know that gemstone face rollers are in the lime lights now, eventhough these skincare tools have been around for centuries (supposed to have originated in the Chinese skincare routine). The popular tools include the Rose quartz and Jade face rollers and Gua sha.

What is the use of face roller:

Face rollers are skincare tools that helps in massaging the skin. This inturn helps in draining the lymph nodes, de-puffing, improving circulation and toning the skin.

  • Boosts circulation and oxygenates the skin
  • Brightens the complexion
  • Tightens pores
  • Reduces wrinkles
  • Plumps up the skin
  • Promotes Product penetration

How to choose the right roller:

The options I know of are Jade, Rose Quartz and Black obsidian rollers. All three serve the same purpose but what makes them different is the properties of the crystal with which they are made. I will just put down basic properties of each:

Rose Quartz face roller : Calming the skin. Best used in the evening/night. Oily skin.

Jade Roller : Energizing and rejuvenating. Best used in the morning. Dry skin.

Black Onyx: Healing and energy balancing. All skin types.

Moolit 108x Washed Ghee:

Before I review the roller, I want to introduce you to a new multi purpose product, the 108x Washed Ghee. This is from the the brand Moolit Beauty by Utkarshini and I had reviewed her Seabuckthorn Cleanser before. Do check it out, as I have added updates of recent batch of cleanser as well.

I am not a fan of face serums and I prefer thick creams for night time skincare.

A roller can be used with serums and creams for massaging and also it helps the product to penetrate better into the skin. So I got the 108x washed ghee infused with rose absolute.

According to Ayurveda, washing cow ghee makes it so light that it can penetrate all 7 layers of the skin. I tried washing organic cow ghee ofter watching Utkarshini’s youtube video and got a creamy end product which was not  oily. It is a tedious and time consuming process though. Also to get the right consistency one has to use copper vessels. I didn’t have one and so I tried in ceramic bowl.

The product comes in an amber glass jar and smells pleasantly of roses. There is also a rose quartz crystal stone inside the jar. The cream is thick and can be used as a cleanser and a moisturizer. Unlike serums and oil based butters, this cream makes the skin feel damp(for lack of better word) and not oily when you first apply it and gets absorbed easily on massaging. Hence it is the perfect consistency to use with the roller.

If you use it in double cleansing, massage the face well with a pea sized quantity before washing it off with another cleanser.

My experience using the roller:

I got my Rose Quartz roller from the insta handle happiness_unlimited_. Dr Poonam who runs the handle is a crystal healer and regression therapist. I decided on the Rose quartz roller because I don’t have time for elaborate skincare routine in the morning and a calming and relaxing face massage at night is something I can try. I bought it when there was a launch offer.

The tool has two roller heads. The bigger one can be used for face, forehead and neck and the smaller one for the eye and nose area.

The stones are cool by nature. So when you roll it on your skin, it really calms and cools the skin. But to enhance the experience I place the roller in the refrigerator for few minutes. I apply some washed ghee dots on my face and massage it in using the roller.

You can find many Youtube videos explaining how to use the nose as a focal point and move the roller outwards. Each area needs to be concentrated for a while before moving further. Also don’t apply much pressure on the tool.

Also as per Poonam, the crystal needs to be cleansed regularly. There are many methods for this like holding it in the sage leaf bundle smoke, or in running water or under a full moon covered in salt. You can read about this further in her insta handle or in general from google. I haven’t done all that but I simply hold it under tap water after the use.

Also another great way to use the roller is on top of sheet masks. This helps the essence to penetrate better and also makes the experience better.

I don’t use the roller everyday but I try to include it often in my regime. My skin feels toned and gets a subtle glow after. With regular use you will find a considerable improvement in the quality of your skin. For m it is more or less like meditation, where I  spend some ‘me’ time before bed and it gives a very good vibe.

NOTE : I think Utkarshini has stopped making washed ghee. If interested, you can try one from happiness_unlimited_ itself.

Vilvah Rose & Vanilla Natural Deodorant

https://web.archive.org/web/20200924235441im_/http://flavoursofbeauty.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/07/IMG_20180507_150707-01-2000×1200.jpeg

Let me introduce you to a new brand in this post, Vilvah which is a natural skincare brand based in Coimbatore. I bought a couple of products from them a few months back and my favorite out of them is this Rose & Vanila Deodorant.

https://web.archive.org/web/20200924235441im_/http://flavoursofbeauty.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/07/IMG_20180614_133453-01-01-819×1024.jpeg

I have introduced to you the vegan lavender deo cream from Burst Of Happyness.     Many of you prefers the deo in twist up applicator and guess what, the Vilvah one comes in one. Let’s take a look at the details of the product.

Product description:Sweating is a natural process and not something that we should stop our bodies from doing. Many mainstream deodorants use aluminium chloral hydrate and aluminium zirconium to block this process and work as an ‘antiperspirant’ to stop sweating. Most of the deodorant contain aluminium which is absorbed directly into the bloodstream when applied on your armpits. It is particularly not safe for women which lead to breast cancer and can cause hormonal imbalance.

Price & Quantity : 590 Rs for 60g

Benefits:

Make your armpits happy with our natural deodorant range. The deodorant we make are not designed to block the sweat glands. Instead, we use a combination of natural ingredients to help absorb wetness, neutralise odour and making you smell fresh with our essential oil combination.

Ingredients: Shea Butter, Virgin Coconut Oil, Cocoa Butter, Arrow Root Powder, Natural Vit E,  Rose Essential Oil, and Vanilla Essential Oil.

My take on the product:

I like the packaging and I find it much more convenient to carry and use. The deodorant has a heavy rose fragrance that lasts long.  If you are not a fan of rose scent try other fragrances from the range, as the scent is strong, kind of like talcom powder fragrance. But there is no artificial fragrance added and you know how much I like the rose fragrance of natural skincare products (check out here).

The product is very creamy and easy to apply on skin. Make sure you rub the product very lightly on skin. A little quantity will suffice and rubbing it more than once will just cause wastage of product. So to make it last long, apply minimally and you are good to go.

Eventhough it is preferable to store the deo in a cool, dry place; I did not see it melt or leak when I traveled with this in a hot and humid area. So this is quite travel friendly.

Juicy Chemistry Neem Butter, Pumpkin & Vitamin E Scalp Repair Hair Mask

https://web.archive.org/web/20200505152736im_/http://flavoursofbeauty.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/07/IMG_20180719_174856-01-2000×1200.jpeg

This post is a review of one of the new launches from Juicy Chemistry kitchen, the Neem Butter, Pumpkin & Vitamin E Scalp Repair Hair Mask.

Ingredients:

Coconut Butter, Neem Butter, Olive Oil, Baobab Oil, Natural Vitamin-E, Castor Oil, Argan Oil, Pumpkin Seed Oil, Beeswax, Lavender, Ylang Ylang Essential Oil, Rosemary, Lemon, Tea-Tree Essential Oil and Ginger.

Price: Rs 850 for 75g

Fragrance and texture : This is a runny oil with a slight green tinge. It is not sticky like heavy oils. The fragrance is strong, with mostly tea tree and rosemary notes; but not overpowering.

Packaging : It comes in an amber glass bottle with a pump and cap.

https://web.archive.org/web/20200505152736im_/http://flavoursofbeauty.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/07/IMG_20180719_174856-01-01-768×1029.jpeg

My take on the product:

Usually a mix of tea tree oil, coconut oil, vit e from capsule, castor oil and ginger juice is my go to hair potion for dry and flaky scalp. This hair product (I wouldn’t call it a mask since this is like a hair oil/tonic) has many more beneficial ingredients for the hair. I either mix it with my normal hair oil and use or most times I replace hair oil with just this.

I like this product a lot. My hair is not chemically treated and I only use natural products to cleanse. Eventhough I have hair fall because of the hard water, my hair is not damaged in any way. But I do get flaky scalp and excessive oiliness at times. This oil has really helped in controlling that.

https://web.archive.org/web/20200505152736im_/http://flavoursofbeauty.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/07/IMG_20180719_175011-01-768×1024.jpeg

A little quantity is enough to massage the scalp, and then it has to be left for 30 min before cleansing it off with a mild cleanser.  I use it only twice a week.

JC keeps having sale on the website often, and that would be a good time to get this product if you wan tot try it out. I would recommend this if you have dandruff/flaky and oily scalp or if your hair is thin, straight and has less volume.

NOTE : Incase you have dry, frizzy and brittle hair which is chemically damaged and is in need of deep conditioning, you should try the Argan and Mango butter mask instead.  especially if you have curly hair.T he mask is very thick (more like a body butter) and has to be applied from root to hair tip as a pre-wash mask. This will weigh your hair down incase you have straight, thin hair.

These products are for improving the overall quality of the scalp and hair and not a treatment for hair fall. Incase you have hairfall problems, you should also take care of your diet and water intake in addition to using natural hair care products.

Skin Yoga

https://web.archive.org/web/20200504125710im_/http://flavoursofbeauty.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/07/IMG_20180718_155304-01-2000×1200.jpeg

I am reviewing two of my favorite products from this 100 % natural brand,Skin Yoga. I had reviewed the green tea face mask from Skin yoga before. I repurchased the full size green tea mask and also tried out the saffron, sandalwood face mask this time.

Skin Yoga Green Tea Face Mask

Check out the previous blog post for detailed review. I will just be adding new observations here.

https://web.archive.org/web/20200504125710im_/http://flavoursofbeauty.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/07/IMG_20180718_155212-01-01-1024×1024.jpeg

Skinyoga green tea mask

Ingredients : So this one has an additional ingredient in the formula which is the Neem leaf powder, in addition to the oat meal, green tea and rice powder.

Suitable for : All skin types, especially oily/acne prone skin.

Review:

If you would ask me what is the one product that can clear out acne, I would suggest this mask. The ingredients are simple and highly effective.  On mixing with water to form a paste, this will increase in quantity. So take just a little first and see if that would suffice. I use it as a spot treatment on acne.

https://web.archive.org/web/20200504125710im_/http://flavoursofbeauty.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/07/IMG_20180718_155412-01-768×1024.jpeg

Because of the presence of neem leaf powder, this makes my eyes water if I apply a thick layer on my cheeks. So I use very little quantity and apply directly over any acne or marks.

Skin Yoga Sandalwood Saffron face mask : Anti ageing skin brightening blend

https://web.archive.org/web/20200504125710im_/http://flavoursofbeauty.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/07/IMG_20180718_155221-01-1024×1024.jpeg

Ingredients : Sandalwood powder, Saffron, walnut powder

Suitable for:  Normal to very dry skin types.

Review:

https://web.archive.org/web/20200504125710im_/http://flavoursofbeauty.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/07/IMG_20180718_155405-01-859×1024.jpeg

This is a powder version of moisturizer. This mask deeply moisturizes the skin and is great addition to your routine, if you have dry skin.

Unlike green tea face mask, the texture of this is crumbly. But once a little of this is mixed with water the color lightens and it becomes soft in texture.

I wouldn’t suggest this mask for oily/acne prone skin types. After washing the mask off, there will be a bit of oiliness on the skin and in a few minutes these oils will skin in completely leaving the skin glowing.

More on the brand:

This is a high end brand, based on the price and packaging. But it is also highly effective and a little goes a long way. One doesn’t need to slather a thick layer of the products to get the most out of it. I usually use just a pinch or two of both masks like spot treatment. Since I have a combination skin, I use the green tea mask mostly on my t-zone or just over pimple prone area and the sandalwood mask on dry patches on the cheeks. I am sure both the products will last me long.

One thing that makes these products efficient is that all the ingredients are actives and works beautifully on the specific skin types, which makes these products worth buying. You can get them from the Skinyoga website or from Nykaa.

The sourcing of the best quality ingredients must be what makes the difference. Because these ingredients are easily available in market and we can as well make a home made mask with it. But I have found that it doesn’t give the same result as the Skin yoga ones.

Both the products comes in a glass jar with glass lid, packed inside a wooden box.  So these are not exactly travel friendly. But since these are in dry powder form, you can easily transfer it into travel friendly tins.

Hope you liked the review. Do leave your comments.
