Just Herbs 6 step skin care regime mini kit review

Hi all, I am back after a vacation and boy, did I really need the time off. Any way I have a lot of products to talk about, but I don’t want to do individual product reviews anymore. I am planning to compare multiple products in a single post or probably write about different skin care regimes. If you are my Instagram follower, you know about all the new products that came in my mail recently. Let me know what you want me to write about regarding skin care and I will for sure include that in my posts.

Today I am reviewing the 6-step skin care regime kit for combination skin by #JustHerbs. It has been almost 6 months since I made this purchase and I think it is high time I tell you about it.

img_20160302_185644-01

The brand has one set of curated products for normal/dry skin and another for combination/oily skin types.

What’s in the box??

A six step organic skincare regime tailor-made for oily/combination skin, this kit uses no creams and relies solely on cooling gels and light textured products instead to maintain an overall glow and nourishment for oily and combination skin types.

It includes the following products, none of which contain harsh cosmetic ingredients such as parabens, sulphates and mineral oil:

Step 1: Silksplash Neem Orange Rehydrant face wash (use daily)

Step 2: Livelyclean honey exfoliating face cleansing gel (use twice a week)

Step3:  Fagel Instant Glow All Purpose Beauty Gel  (use daily)

Step 4 : Fairever Milky White Protective Fairness Pack (twice a week)

Step 5: No Sun Jojoba Wheatgerm Sun Protection Gel (daily)

Step 6: Fair’e Mulethi Khus Skin Lightening Gel (daily at bed time)

*Jar quantity 15 g/ Bottle size 30 ml

I also bought the Petal soft face pack (Review) and a shampoo along with it.

Price : Rs 845. The full sized kit is available, that costs Rs2750. Also when I bought it, the miniature products came in a plain white box, where as now they have a much prettier box.

Ingredients : Please click on links of individual products listed above to read about ingredients. Not including as it would make this post really big.

Fragrance : All products has somewhat similar fragrance, which is quite pleasant and mild. It is not the ayurvedic smell or fruity/floral smells but quite refreshing and nice.

img_20160919_182220-01

My experience with the products:

Even though I already had a skin care regime, it was not products from the same brand. So I stopped using all those products and completely used Just Herb products from the kit daily.  As you know, my skin is mostly not a trouble maker and behaves well with most of the products. All the products from the kit suited my combination skin and was quite mild on skin. Because of the oil and cream free formula, the products are quite light and non-greasy.

  1. Silksplash face wash is probably the mildest liquid face ash I have tried so far. It doesn’t dry out or pull the skin and can be used by all skin types in my opinion. It is a gel based face wash that effectively removes dirt and oil (not makeup, it’s just a face wash) and keeps skin smooth and soft for long.Read about it here as well Daily morning skin care routine for glowing skin .
  2. Lively clean honey exfoliating gel : I already wrote about this product separately. Please read it here .

jh-01

3.Fagel glow day gel : This is a light green colored gel that can be used as a moisturizer. Again, light on skin, non-tacky and gets absorbed easily. I did not get any “instant glow’ as the name suggests but I find it a good all purpose gel for oily skinned beauties.

4.Fairever face mask : Well, I am not a fan of ‘fair’ on product names, still the products did not disappoint me. I did not use it much initially, as I was keen on getting my tan removed using the Petal soft face pack. But one day when I tried this pack, I found that it brightened up my skin after use. Also I like the facet that this is a wet pack, that can be directly applied on face (eventhough that means there are preservatives. Yes IAM LAZY).

Also I liked this face pack, better than the Petal soft one, as the latter caused a  bit of stinging sensation on my sensitive skin.

5. No Sun Jojoba Sun protection gel : Now this is the best non-greasy sun screen for all skin types. It is light, doesn’t form a white cast on skin, smells nice, gets absorbed in a jiffy and really moisturizes the skin without making it oily. But this one needs to be reapplied from time to time, if you are prone to sun exposure for long hours.

6.Fair’e night gel : Again, another one that says ‘fair’. Seriously brands!!! it’s great to be dusky as well. Anyway, this one has similar consistency as that of the day gel but is in a light saffron colour. The product claims to make skin fairer and brighter, fight sun damage, clear spot and dark patches and so on. I don’t think, the quantity was enough to test these claims, but I found it a good night moisturizer, that prevented dry patches from showing up in the morning, without making the skin oily.

Verdict

Overall I am very happy with this skin kit. If you are of oily/combination skin type and doesn’t want to experiment with different brand products, just get this kit and follow the regime religiously. It will definitely improve the quality of your skin over a period of use.

One suggestion to the brand,do add a lip balm as well in the kit as lip care is as important as tasking care of the rest of the face.

Also if you have tried out their normal/dry skin regime kit, do let me know how it was.

Green tea mask, desi sandals and best matte lipstick

This month I did a bit of quirky shopping and well everything turned out to be amazing (usually I return most of the stuff I buy online). So here is a sneak peak.

Skincare:

I found out about this brand called #skinyoga recently and I got a sample sized green tea face mask to try via the app Smytten.

Skin Yoga is a luxury skin care brand that provides 100% plant based products. The green tea face mask came in this cute little wooden box. The mask was enclosed within a tiny glass bottle with a cork stopper. Head over to my instagram feed (Here), to see the cute video I made unpacking the product.

mix

The product is simple but very effective treatment for oily and acne prone skin. I will be doing a detailed review of the product soon.

Blue sandals :

I came across this fb page 22.2accessories few weeks back, and I loved their funky and quirky handcrafted products. Richa, the brand owner was a doll and helped me choose these awesome pair of handcrafted leather sandals. Really comfortable to wear and best for daily use. I love all those colors that adds life to otherwise unnoticed feet.

Peachy little liars :

I am not a big fan of makeup and I don’t generally use anything but kohl. But it has been a while since I wanted a perfect natural lip shade that can make my otherwise dry and lifeless lips, look a bit healthy on occasions. My search has now ended successfully, after my purchase of Peachylittleliars from Sugar cosmetics. #sugarcosmetics

FDA approved, this lipstick is free of mineral oil and parabens. Love!!!

PC : Sugar Cosmetics

This dusky pink shade is exactly same as my natural lip color, and hence evens out the color of my lips. It brings that subtle glam to my otherwise dried and washed out lips. Quite happy with the shade even though this being matte, does dry out my lips after a while.

So that’s it, these are my favorites for this month. Let me know if there is a brand or product, you think I should know of. I will surely try it out and review it here.

Kama Ayurveda store visit and haul post

Kama Ayurveda, started in 2002 in India, is a luxury skincare brans that sells authentic ayurveda based skin care products. According to the brand,

Our treatments are 100% natural and use plant-based ingredients, prepared from organically – grown plants and herbs or collected by India’s tribal communities from natural habitats. This means – No artificial colours. No artificial fragrance. No animal ingredients. No petrochemicals, parabens, urea, propylene glycol or sulphates. All our organic products are internationally certified.

I had always wanted to try their products but felt they are too expensive. But recently, I came across many product reviews of the brand and wanted to check out if it was worth the hype.

They have two outlets in Bangalore, one at the V.R Mall and another at 1 M.G mall. I got a chance to visit both the branches and I bought few of their products.

First of all, I loved their store decor. The tranquil Indian instrumental music and pure fragrance from the incense, transports you to a peaceful state of mind. There is an ‘Indianness’ in the store that is so refreshing fro a change. I had done my research on the brand before visiting the stores. They partner with Arya Vaidya Pharmacy to ensure the quality of products. As per the store staff (who was very helpful), their labs are in Kerala but unfortunately, no stores there. From the reviews of many bloggers, I already had an idea of their best sellers (the kumkumadi face serum, scrub and hair oils)

V.R Mall store

1468742100952.jpg

The small store offers products ranging from face care, body care products to authentic ayurvedic oils and incense sticks. I walked around smelling and trying out all the products and even my husband, who is not into the skin care madness like me, enjoyed the music and decor of the store.

I had already read rave reviews on the kumkumadi oil and face mists. I, being not a fan of face oils, did not feel like getting that. Even though I was not planning to buy anything, the store staff spent a good amount of time, explaining the usage of products I showed interest in and I ended up getting the vetiver face mist, as suggested by the staff (for combination skin). He said rose and lavender mists can be a bit heavy for oily/combination skin types.

Also the range of soaps were amazing, most of them smelled really good, especially the rose and red sandalwood ones. So I got the rose, cinnamon, orange soap that had a heavenly fragrance.

Loved the packaging of products and the paper bag I got. I don’t know where the French connection is from, as all the products have details mentioned in French as well.

1 MG store visit

Mohnish and Reema, from the brand arranged my second store visit. The 1 MG outlet of the brand, has an ayurvedic doctor for clients to consult. But to my disappointment, the doctor was not available on the day I visited. Nevertheless, I spent quite some time, checking out the products and finally bought eladi hydrating day cream. This branch actually lacked the music and space of the first outlet and the staff did not look that interested about the customers either(probably because it was quite late in the evening).

I got sample tubes from both the stores and i started using few of them. Samples included hand and foot cream, night cream, face masks, face scrub, bringadi hair oil and tiny bottles of body oils. Also I got a book let with all their product images, % of natural ingredients and a small description.

First impressions:

1468742248549

All the products, smells so pure and are quite light on skin. Even the creams ,inspite of being thick, gets easily absorbed and doesn’t leave oily cast or residue. The face mist is very earthy and refreshing. The ingredient list and quality are really impressive.

The ingredients are very pure and formulated in the best of quality, that only a small amount of product is required for each use. Hence it lasts longer and I feel that the price is justified. Even the 5g tube of face cream, lasted me a week and more, with daily use.

Also I feel a huge difference in the quality and efficacy of the product, even within 2 weeks of use, compared to other pocket friendly alternatives I have tried so far. Wait a second, I don’t think the price difference is much (for the products I bought), as most of the natural brands available, sells products at a comparative cost these days. The face toner for eg, cost only 175Rs when many other handmade natural brands I know, sells it for more.

Also I did not buy the very costly products, that I felt I did not really need in my skin care regime.

The brand also offers pure essential oils, lip balms, body lotions, scrubs, plant based masks and ubtans.

I will be reviewing the products after using it for a while.

Do check out their store when you get a chance and let me know your thoughts.

Pomegranate facial cleanser from Gia

Hey all. Now this post is also a story on how my passion for handmade skincare products started.

I was not someone keen on taking care of my skin and I never used any makeup. All I used was a daily moisturizer and Kohl for eyes. Pears or dove for bath and mild herbal shampoos for hair. Their ended my skincare regime. I did not even know there was something called soap free cleansers or body scrubs.

One day I came across a YouTube video on review of a chemical free, soap free, all natural face cleanser. That too a cleanser that is not a liquid or a cream. I was intrigued.I checked out the facebook page of the brand (based in Mumbai) and ordered few products, which did not include the cleanser. Gayatri from Gia, send me a tub of the angel face cleanser along with the other products I ordered and boy, Iam glad she did.

The bath and body care experience I had after, was beyond everything I had experienced so far. The products smells divine and using them made me love my skin. My bath hours became elaborate and the best me time of my day.

I kept on going back to Gia and Gayatri spoiled me crazy with all the fee goodies she leaves with the order.

So ever since angel face cleanser, I have tried the orange, coffee and pomegranate cleansers and I find the pomegranate one very close to angel cleanser and since I have a tub right now, I shall review it.

1468138193429

Price : Rs 300 for 50g and trust me you need only a pinch of the product for the face and one tub lasts me several months.

Ingredients: See for yourselves.

1468138381832

Now that’s an impressive list of wonderful ingredients.

Texture and fragrance :

The texture is humid and crumbly with oats meal as the base ingredient. It is not a dry powder. On mixing with water it turns to a milky paste with soft bits of solid ingredients that spreads easily on skin.

Fragrance is very pleasant slightly floral one and must be the essential oil mix smell.

Buy from here or here

1468138289717

My Experience using the product:

As you can see, this variant has those crimson pomegranate seeds scattered in the mix. This product also triples up as a mask and mild scrub. So take a pinch of the product, mix it with water to make a paste, spread it evenly on face and let it sit for a while. Gently massage the face while the product is still wet and wash it off with cold water.

Now this is one product that suits all skin types. If you have dry skin, this will moisturize it amply and if you have oily or combination skin, it cleanses the skinw without stripping the moisture.

You can see the essential oils seeping to your skin and keeping it well fed for a long time. Very mild and very effective, this cleanser is nothing like the foaming, soapy ones that leaves the skin parched or like the dry powdery natural cleansers that are a bit harsh on skin.

I am totally in love with this one and the angel cleanser.

1468140257101.jpg

PS : The coffee cleanser will be perfect for dry skinned beauties. But it will make the oily or combination skin more oily. Orange cleanser lacked the smoothness of oats, as it has orange and lemon peel powder as the main ingredient. But there are fans for that as well. Tomato face cleanser is a recent addition to the list but I have not used it.

So you can ping Gayatri in the Gia fb page and she will help you choose the right product for your skin type.

Do follow the blog and leave comments if you liked the post 😃

Juicy Chemistry Rose Sandalwood Mask

Hi all,

In this post I am reviewing the Juicy Chemistry Rose & sandalwood mask for oily skin. I really liked the divine smell of their Classic rose body butter, that made me try other products in their rose collection. But to my dismay the rose lip balm, rose saffron soap or this mask, none of them has the same fragrance.

But it is understandable as far as this mask is concerned, as it has sandalwood essential oil that always takes the centre stage when it comes to fragrance.

JCmask

Price : 400Rs for 50gm

Packing :  The mask comes in a plastic jar with sturdy cap. It is travel friendly as it doesn’t spill. I don’t remember if it had a protective lid. Because I might have removed it later. So there is little spillage while opening the cap.

Ingredients : Fullers Earth, Orange Peel, Rose, Almond-meal, Lavender, Sandalwood Essential Oil, Rose Essential Oil, Lavender Essential Oil

Fragrance : Mostly of sandalwood essential oil. It is a soothing fragrance, of natural ingredients.

Texture :

JCmask1

The texture is powdery with no harsh particles. On mixing with water it doesn’t forms a brown paste with smooth particles because of the presence of almond meal and orange peel.

My experience using the product :

I prefer masks that can be directly applied on skin without having to mix with water. But this being a product with 0 preservatives, I am fine with taking that little effort.

Since it is a clay based product it is good for oily skin. I have combination skin and I use this whenever I feel that my t-zone needs oil control. I mix this with tap water, make  a paste and apply it evenly on my face and  neck.

This heats my skin a bit but there is no tingly effect. So while I prefer #justherbs anti tan mask (review here) to cool my sin after sun, this one I use to keep the oiliness at bay.

It dries up pretty quick, in about 10min. But I don’t wait till the mask completely dries up. This is because, it can cause skin to stretch when it dries out and thereby cause wrinkles.

The pack effectively balances out oily skin but it might parch dry skin. It doesn’t brighten up my face or bring a glow, but it controls oiliness of skin and keeps the skin fresh.

Verdict :

Can’t say this one is my favourite clay based mask (review of which is coming soon) but when used regularly this does improve skin texture and controls oiliness.

Not for people with dry facial skin.

Green Clay Detox Mask

I have reviewed many products from Gia already. Today the post is about French green clay detox mask from the brand. This is a wonderful mask for oily skin, as it absorbs impurities and controls excess oil.

french

Price : 300Rs for 50gm

Ingredients:

french2

As you can see, this is a mix of 4 clays and it has no added fragrance or preservatives.

French Green Clay is a 100% natural bio-organic material and contains a cornucopia of valuable elements, with several important mineral oxides, magnesium, calcium, potassium, dolomite, silica, manganese, phosporous, silicon, copper, and selenium.

Rhassoul clay is rich in magnesium, silica, potassium, and calcium, which all help to nourish your skin. The molecular structure of Rhassoul clay gives it a unique ability to absorb excess dirt and oil, as well as extract toxic matter from the skin.

Kaolin clay works by reducing the production of sebum.

Fuller’s Earth or Multani mitti is known to tighten pores, diminish scars, lighten and detan skin.

Texture:

french1

This is a fine powder when dry with pale green colour because of the green clay.

When mixed with water, it forms a paste but it is not a smooth paste. There are soft lumps of colloidal oatmeal in it.

flavours3

My experience:

This is a good buy as only half a teaspoon of product is enough to cover face and neck. 50g lasts really long. I have still have half a tub left. I don’t apply it as a thick mask as I don’t want to dry out my skin. The mask smells earthy and is a very mild smell. It gets dried out pretty fast. I don’t wait for it to get dried as that stretches my skin. I wash it off with water after about 8min.

This masks removes extra oiliness from skin, cleanses it well, massaging while washing it off increases blood flow in face and removes impurities. This is for oily and combination skin and will further dry out skin, if used for dry facial skin.

I like this a lot and this is different from the herbal masks I usually use. But it doesn’t brighten up my skin as much as herbal masks.

Hope you all liked the post.

Petal Soft : Summer love

If you were following my posts, you already know that I had promised to write about my favourite rose face packs for summer. It included Just herbs Petalsoft face pack and Rose Sandalwood one from Juicy Chemistry.

1463808039662

Both are extremely different in terms of ingredients, consistency and effect. So my absolute favourite among these two, is the Petal Soft one. Read on to know why 🙂

rosefacepack

Price : Rs 395 for 150g

Ingredients : Indian rose , Indian ginseng, liquorice, Honey , Holy Basil, Natrium boricum , Rose hydrosol, Aqua, Aloevera leaf juice,Vegetable glycerine, Bentonite clay, Indian Volcanic clay, Disodium EDTA, Potassium sorbate, Sodium benzoate, Natural preservative (Herbs-Essential oil complex), Fragrance.Certified Organic Ingredients

Buy from : Justherbs

Product Claims : This pack effectively reduces skin darkening, protects from sun burn and other sun induced skin damage making the skin fairer with a petal soft perfection.

Packing : Comes in a tub with a protective lid to avoid spilling of the product, along with main screw cap. Love the label. Ingredients and directions are clearly given in the label.

Consistency : This is a clay mask, that can be directly applied to skin. It is smooth in texture and has no gritty particles.

Fragrance : Absolutely love the fragrance. This product has fragrance added to it and it’s not entirely natural fragrance of ingredients alone. Still, it smells like roses and sandal. The smell is not overpowering at all and is very pleasant.

What I love about the product :

  1. There is no mess in product application. Just take from the tub and apply directly to skin. No need to mix or dilute. Texture is very smooth and the pack easily slides on skin.
  2. Smell is very pleasant and calming.
  3. Cools the skin instantly and calms sunburned skin in no time.
  4. Good quantity for the price and ingredients include rose, honey , aloe vera and liquorice that helps to control photo ageing, sun burns and melanin production.
  5. Very easy to wash it off.
  6.  Doesn’t dry or stretch my combination skin.
  7. Did not cause any breakouts.
  8. Cleanses skin of dirt and impurities.
  9. Unlike other clay based powder masks this doesn’t heat up the skin on application or cause any tingling sensation.

Nay points :

  1. I have finished using half of the tub and still I don’t see any observable skin lightening.
  2. Can’t say it treats the spots/pigmentation due to sun burn.
  3. Doesn’t help in reducing acne, even though this is a clay mask.

Verdict :

Probably I have to use it over a period to see effects, as the ingredients are natural. But then again, I did not expect it to lighten the skin tone. I wanted an easy to apply pack, ideal for summers, that calms and cools the skin. This does just that and I am totally repurchasing this.

Summer Love😍

I will be reviewing two of my favourite rose based products in my next post.

Have you used these yet??

Don't Look At ME ;)

Today I will be reviewing the super awesome ‘Don’t Look at me’ face mask from LUSH. ‪#‎Lush‬

lush

This vivid pastel blue face mask, unlike the general powdery or creamy masks, is a gritty moist mask with ingredients like ground rice, murumuru butter, silken tofu and zingy lemony fresh smell.

lush1

This is a fresh mask and is available only from Lush stores.
The gritty ground rice particles scrubs away all dirt and grime but since the particles are not fine, it has to be massaged gently.

Smear the mask directly to cleansed face and let it dry. It doesn’t dry out to the point that it becomes flaky. This just sits as a thin creamy layer on the face. Wash away with warm water after gently massaging for additional scrubbing action. The skin feels really smooth, visibly brighter and squeaky clean. The lime fragrance is like a splash of freshness after a tiring day and just wakes up the skin in no time.

It did not dry out my skin but I have read reviews that said it was a bit drying on sensitive skin.

Now the only disappointing thing is that you have to use it up pretty fast as this being a fresh mask. The expiry was around after 20 days as I had bought it after few days of preparation.

Ingredients : Glycerine, Kaolin, Water (Aqua), Fresh Organic Lemon Juice (Citrus limonum), Organic Silken Tofu, Rice Syrup (Oryza sativa syrup), Grounded White Rice (Oryza sativa starch), Rice Milk (Oryza sativa), Murumuru Butter (Astrocaryum Murumuru), Bentone (Hectorite), Colour 42090, Perfume, Grapefruit Oil (Citrus paradisi), Neroli Oil (Citrus Aurantium amara), Limonene, Geraniol, Linalool, Farnesol.
