Pomegranate facial cleanser from Gia

Hey all. Now this post is also a story on how my passion for handmade skincare products started.

I was not someone keen on taking care of my skin and I never used any makeup. All I used was a daily moisturizer and Kohl for eyes. Pears or dove for bath and mild herbal shampoos for hair. Their ended my skincare regime. I did not even know there was something called soap free cleansers or body scrubs.

One day I came across a YouTube video on review of a chemical free, soap free, all natural face cleanser. That too a cleanser that is not a liquid or a cream. I was intrigued.I checked out the facebook page of the brand (based in Mumbai) and ordered few products, which did not include the cleanser. Gayatri from Gia, send me a tub of the angel face cleanser along with the other products I ordered and boy, Iam glad she did.

The bath and body care experience I had after, was beyond everything I had experienced so far. The products smells divine and using them made me love my skin. My bath hours became elaborate and the best me time of my day.

I kept on going back to Gia and Gayatri spoiled me crazy with all the fee goodies she leaves with the order.

So ever since angel face cleanser, I have tried the orange, coffee and pomegranate cleansers and I find the pomegranate one very close to angel cleanser and since I have a tub right now, I shall review it.

1468138193429

Price : Rs 300 for 50g and trust me you need only a pinch of the product for the face and one tub lasts me several months.

Ingredients: See for yourselves.

1468138381832

Now that’s an impressive list of wonderful ingredients.

Texture and fragrance :

The texture is humid and crumbly with oats meal as the base ingredient. It is not a dry powder. On mixing with water it turns to a milky paste with soft bits of solid ingredients that spreads easily on skin.

Fragrance is very pleasant slightly floral one and must be the essential oil mix smell.

Buy from here or here

1468138289717

My Experience using the product:

As you can see, this variant has those crimson pomegranate seeds scattered in the mix. This product also triples up as a mask and mild scrub. So take a pinch of the product, mix it with water to make a paste, spread it evenly on face and let it sit for a while. Gently massage the face while the product is still wet and wash it off with cold water.

Now this is one product that suits all skin types. If you have dry skin, this will moisturize it amply and if you have oily or combination skin, it cleanses the skinw without stripping the moisture.

You can see the essential oils seeping to your skin and keeping it well fed for a long time. Very mild and very effective, this cleanser is nothing like the foaming, soapy ones that leaves the skin parched or like the dry powdery natural cleansers that are a bit harsh on skin.

I am totally in love with this one and the angel cleanser.

1468140257101.jpg

PS : The coffee cleanser will be perfect for dry skinned beauties. But it will make the oily or combination skin more oily. Orange cleanser lacked the smoothness of oats, as it has orange and lemon peel powder as the main ingredient. But there are fans for that as well. Tomato face cleanser is a recent addition to the list but I have not used it.

So you can ping Gayatri in the Gia fb page and she will help you choose the right product for your skin type.

Cape of Good Soap : Rosewood and Mint soap

I had introduced the brand CAPE OF GOOD SOAP in a previous post. In Manisha’s words,

While, the products are organic and pro-nature, the USP of my line of products is customisation or personalisation as the products are created keeping the shoppers need/s in mind. This is one of its kind in India as I make every single product keeping the desired result in mind.

Now the name is quite catchy and nice. I have been following their product line for a while and when I showed interest, Manisha was kind enough to send me few products.

In this post I am reviewing the rosewood and mint soap. Now all the 3 soaps she sent me have very interesting ingredients, some of which are new to me. For instance rose wood essential oil. Rosewood oil is used chiefly as a fragrance and flavouring ingredient. It is known for its uplifting and antiseptic nature.

Also this particular soap was suggested considering the oily nature of my t zone and dry patches on my knees.

cg1

Price : 310 Rs for 120gm

Ingredients : Himalayan Clay, Shea Butter, Hand crushed mint leaves, rosewood and mint essential oil, white glycerine base.

So this batch is not made by cold processing but from pre made soap base by Manisha.

Fragrance : The oil distilled from rosewood is recommended for taking care of dry, sensitive skin. This oil has a warm, sweetish woody aroma. Slight notes of mint also adds to the uplifting fragrance.

Texture : This is a solid bar of soap and is not pliable under strong hold, which I like about it. There is crushed mint leaves scattered on the soap but it is not scrubby or harsh.

My experience with the product :

The product looks really pretty with swirls and mint leaves on top with pretty pink colour. The soap lather is not heavy or creamy but quite light and frothy. It cleanses the skin pretty well. I stopped using all other cleansers and products on skin, except for my moisturiser so that I get to know the effects of the soap well.

This removes all hints of oiliness (himalayan clay plays its part well) and dirt from skin and leaves my face well cleansed without drying or stretching the skin. It remains oil free for quite long and face remains soft and smooth. Fragrance is also very different and uplifting. It is a relief after long day’s work. Also since the larger is light it gets washed off easily when used on face and hence doesn’t trouble the eyes.

It is not a creamy moisturising kind of soap but the kind that cleanses, clarifies and keeps oil at bay. Easy to cleanse off as well as there are no soft pieces falling off or sticking to skin.

One great thing is, it doesn’t melt easily and doesn’t just soften up and go mushy under hot/cold water. So products remains for longer keeping its shape.

Why I feel it is worth the price is, the soap stays for long. I have tried out decadent soaps that are rich but just gets used up so fast, because of its texture. This one even though bleeds the oils as I see in the monsoon now, is a solid piece of soap.

But this did not help with the dry patches on my knees even though it is perfect for my combination skin on face. Then again I don’t expect a soap to act as moisturiser.

I wouldn’t suggest this for people with dry skin.

Verdict :

I am very happy with the first product from the lot. This is a great soap for men and women, especially in summers. It gives a different experience than the usual herbal, chocolatey or floral/fruity soaps, owing to its unique ingredients. I feel this soap has a unisex fragrance that is perfect to relax after a long day. Mild and perfect as a facial soap for oily/combination skin types.

The brand offers customizations according to skin types and needs. So do check out their fb page(link given above).

The brand has sent the product as review sample but that has not affected my opinions in anyway and this is an honest review on the effectiveness of the product on my skin.

Look what came in my mail today!

I am so excited to receive this pack of awesomeness and I can’t wait to use and review these goodies.

So what I got is a box of 3 soaps from Manissha of Cape of good soap. All with really interesting ingredients and all three looks really pretty.

1466518084284

About the brand:

Brain child of Manissha, the brand specializes in custom made soaps and bath goodies. The brand is based on Belgium.

The brand claims ingredients to be pure and organic and each soap is customized, keeping in mind the needs and skin condition of customer. Other products from brand includes shampoo bars and bath salts.

I love the name of the brand and the fact that the ingredients are really different from the ones I have been using so far. The bars look beautiful and smell really nice.

The soaps I received are Green tea, rise wood&mint and pepper&bergamot. The pepper one actually smells like pepper even though it is not overpowering.

This has been chosen by Manissha for my combination skin type with dryness on hands and feet.

Detailed review will be posted after using each of these for a while.

Skin Rehab Soap

I have reviewed Juicy Chemistry soaps before and this one has some special ingredients.

Claimed to be skin rehab soap, this one is specifically for scarred and damaged skin. With healing and antioxidant properties of carrot and scrub action of adzuki beans, this soap is claimed to be super beneficial for skin.

Does it really heal damaged skin???

1465566582016

Price: Rs 850. With an additional shipping cost of Rs100, THIS IS VERY EXPENSIVE.

IngredientsShea Butter, Mango Butter, Cocoa Butter, Distilled Water, Sodium Hydroxide (Lye), Extra Virgin Olive Oil, Castor Oil, Sweet Almond Oil, Rosehip Essential Oil,Neroli Essential Oil, Lavender Essential Oil, Helichrysum Essential Oil, Lemon Essential Oil,  Carrot Juice, Adzuki Bean

Colour : The soap is of pale yellow ochre colour with brown particles of adzuki beans.

Fragrance : The fragrance same as the skin rehab butter from the brand. It must be the carrot seed oil smell predominantly and blend of other essential oils.

Texture : It is a solid soap piece and has rough texture because of the scrubby particles.

My experience using the product:

Just like other soaps from the brand, this one also lathers well and makes skin squeaky clean after use. But this did not help with the dry white patches in knees and elbows. I like the scrub effect and it is quite mild. The soap doesn’t seem to heal damaged skin or moisturize it my dry skin. I use it on face as well and I feel this will suit sensitive skin as well.

So basically this is a good soap with exceptional ingredients, but I don’t think it is worth the price. Probably the ingredients might show it’s effect after regular use of same soap over a period of time. But hell no, this is not pocket friendly and not one that’s so great that you can ignore the price.

Spicy Apple Pie anyone???

Juicy Chemistry offers a wide range of gourmet soaps and I got a chance to try few samples. I have reviewed their Hazelnut and vanilla latte soap previously. Did this one impress my skin as much??? Read on…

ApplepiePC: Juicy Chemistry

Price : INR 475 + Rs 100 shipping charges

Ingredients : Shea Butter,  Kokum Butter, Distilled Water, Sodium Hydroxide (Lye), Extra Virgin Olive Oil, Castor Oil, Cinnamon Essential Oil, Sea Buckthorn Oil, Apple Juice

Buy from: http://juicychemistry.com

Fragrance : This one has a spicy smells, owing to cinnamon essential oil. It is not over powering and is quite refreshing.

Feel :PicsArt_05-30-03.43.23

As you can see, this soap produces a yellowish brown lather. It doesn’t leave the colour on skin and gets washed off quite easily.

My Experience:

This soap is different than other organic soaps I have used, as the fragrance is not the normal floral/herbal or citrusy smell but spicy. And you can see that the ingredient colour transfers to the lather, which feels like using natural ubtan mix on skin.

All the soaps I used so far from the brand, leaves skin squeaky clean but I don’t find this moisturising. My skin is quite dry and I need to moisturise it after bath. The soap is quite refreshing and ideal for summers.

Yay or Nay?

Does this suit all skin types??? Yes, it leaves a squeaky clean skin but you won’t be satisfied incase you have very dry skin and you expect your cleanser to moisturise as well.

It is on the pricey side with addition of shipping charges. But the ingredient list is impressive and the brand uses certified essential oils and is against animal testing.

The brand offers many more varieties and I want to try them all 🙂

Juicy Chemistry Hazelnut & Vanilla Latte Soap

The Hazelnut & Vanilla Latte Soap from JC is one among the couple of soaps I got from them recently. So far I have used their Apple Pie soap, Black Tea, Hemp & Charcoal soap and Cucumber,Green Tea & Spearmint soap.

All these soaps are 100% natural and free of any chemicals and artificial fragrance. All soaps I used have very herbal smell that feels similar at first but then you realize the undertones and smells of particular ingredients.

The review of other two will be up soon. Now let us see how good the Hazelnut, vanilla latte soap is.

JC

What I liked about the product:

I got the products personally from an expo. So can’t comment on the packing. But from my previous experiences and other user reviews, I can assure you that JC takes packing quite seriously. The aesthetics and environment friendliness of the packing is commentable.

Fragrance : Coming to the soap, as I mentioned it has a herbal smell which is not too strong. Can’t say it smells of vanilla or coffee in particular. The smell is refreshing and uplifting.Fragrance doesn’t stay in skin for long though.

Feel : As you can see in the image, the soap has gritty paricles of ground coffee bean that provides good exfoliation. It lathers well and makes skin squeaky clean. It doesn’t dry out or stretch the skin but I like to use moisturiser after, as I need extra nourishment in the  knees and elbows.

The soap is not very soft and it doesn’t melt and retains shape after use.

Verdict:

Overall this is a good refreshing soap for summers.

This is a cleanser and scrub and I don’t have to use body polish when using this, which I love.

I don’t think this is as nourishing in winters. For dry skinned people like me, extra moisturising is required.

The price is on the higher side and that’s the only low for me.

Benefits Of Ingredients:

Hazelnut Oil

Hazelnut oil acts on the skin as an excellent moisturizer and emollient, because it has a number of key essential fatty acids such as linoleic acid, which possess characteristics to rehydrate fatty acids. It further also contributes to the elasticity of the skin as it helps to regenerate dead cells and revitalize the skin. It helps to tone and firm the skin.

Ground Coffee Bean

The coffee plant (Coffea arabica) is an evergreen shrub and the deeply aromatic beans act as a pick-me-up in any product. It soothes the skin and it acts as an exfoliant. It also reduces the appearance of cellulite and stimulates skin cells.

Vanilla Bean

Vanilla seeds have a beautifully sweet and comforting aroma. Natural vanilla beans are the dried, unripe fruit of an orchid (Vanilla planifolia). As a skin care ingredient, not only does it infuse products with a gorgeous scent, it also treats acne, soothes burns, promotes healthy skin, and acts as an anti-ageing element.

Almond Milk

Almond milk contains 50 percent of the recommended daily amount of vitamin E, which contains antioxidant properties essential to your skin’s health, such as protecting it against sun damage. Apart from the vitamins, it also has antioxidants which assist in repairing damaged skin, as well as regulating vitamin A.

Cold Pressed Sweet Almond Oil

Almond oil (Prunus dulcis) is one of the most versatile carrier oils. It is light textured, and penetrates the skin easily. It is rich in essential fatty acids, vitamins A, B1, B2, B6 and E, our sweet almond oil is extracted from the dried kernels of the almond tree in the traditional cold pressed method. We extensively use it in our skin & hair care products, for its ability to deeply nourish the skin and condition dry, damaged hair.

Shea Butter

Shea butter (Butyrospermun parkii) contains oleic acid which is a saturated fatty acid. It mimics the sebum which is naturally produced by our skin. Shea butter is easily absorbed into the skin and it intensely moisturises and provides relief for dry skin.

Cocoa Butter

Cocoa butter is derived from the seeds of the cacao tree (Theobroma cacao). The same tree also provides chocolate and the butter which is derived is non-greasy and smells mildly like chocolate. Cocoa Butter softens skin and hair and it is valued for its conditioning properties.

Sodium Hydroxide

Sodium Hydroxide (NaOH) is a white salt which is water soluble. It is a saponification agent which is used extensively in soap-making. It is commonly known as lye.

*Used during the Saponification Process to turn oil into soap.

None remains in the finished product.

All real soap is made with saponified oils!

My favorite hair cleanser from Gia

Gia Bath and Body works is always my go to brand for skincare. It is not just about the quality of products that makes customers like about the brand, but also the dedication of Gayatri (brain behind the brand) in making sure there is 100% customer satisfaction.

She will listen to all your feedbacks good and bad and will make sure the products meets your expectations and delivers what it claims.

You can buy the products from > https://www.facebook.com/GiaBathAndBodyWorks

I have been using hair cleanser, conditioner and body oil from the brand for over a year now. I am reviewing hair cleanser from the brand in this post.

Hair Cleanser

Price > Rs 290

Ingredient List > Below

IMG_20160503_204359

Packing > It comes in a plastic bottle with screw cap. I was a bit disappointed with the cap as I have to shake the bottle every time to get the product.

Experience>

This shampoo is off-white coloured and of creamy thick consistency. A pea size amount is enough to cleanse the scalp after mixing with water. It lathers quite well. Fragrance is  pleasant and light. It took me around 6 months to completely use it up (I wash my hair thrice a week with shampoo). I have short hair but as I said, a little goes a long way. Additionally it is free of sulfates, parabens and harmful chemicals and the ingredient list is quite impressive.

Verdict > I have used shampoo bars and cleansers from other natural brands. But without doubt this is the best chemical free shampoo considering quality, quantity and price.

Butter Cream Whipped Soaps

Souffle soaps from Gia bath and body works comes in many variants. Gayatri sent me the chocolate and strawberry ones.

Price : 550 Rs

Gayatri Acharya Brown has her bath and body products under the brand name Gia (named after her cutie pie daughter Georgia).

I have used many products from the range and I am quite impressed by the quality of the products and the open mindedness of Gayatri in taking all the feedbacks, good and bad equally well. She makes sure the customer is 100% satisfied with the products.

Read the review on one of her best sellers: chocolate creme silk here  https://flavoursofbeauty.wordpress.com/2015/07/03/a-divine-chocolate-soap/

Today I am reviewing whipped soaps from Gia. Unlike normal soap bars, these are blends of oils and butters whipped to create fluffy creamy soft soaps. These comes in tubs and smells heavenly.

BB1

Chocolate Decadence Whipped Cream Soap

The first one is Chocolate variant and similar fragrance as Choco-creme silk. You can see the ingredient list below.

BB3

As mentioned a small quantity is sufficient. The lather is very soft and moisturising. Doesn’t strip the skin of it’s oils.

Strawberries & Champagne Whipped Cream Soap

This one feels like a tub of soft cotton candy with bubble gum fragrance. Kids will love this one.I liked the chocolate one better (only based on fragrance).

bb4

In Gayatri’s words: It smells like cupcakes, fresh strawberries, ice cream, candy, and champagne. An absolutely delicious treat for you skin.

Aqua Lily Whipped Cream Soap is also available but I have not tried this.

The ingredients are almost same in all, but the fragrance varies.

These lasts longer than soaps as the quantity required is very less for each wash, when used with loofah.

And there is nothing really negative about these. If you feel that price is a negative wait for sales. Gayatri’s keeps giving discounts every now and then or if you are lucky enough you might get one sample free with your purchase from her.

Hope you all liked the review.

Sultana Of Soaps

Product review : Lush soap ‪#‎Lush‬

This is the most amazingly fragrant soap I have ever used. This smells just exotic.

Ingredients : Water (Aqua) , Rapeseed Oil (Brassica napus) , Glycerine , Coconut Oil (Cocos nucifera) , Sorbitol , Fragrance , Dried Apricots (Prunus armeniaca) , Dried Currants (Ribes Nigrum) , Titanium Dioxide , Dried Cranberries (Vaccinium macrocarpon) , Olibanum Oil (Boswella Carterii) , Bergamot Oil (Citrus Aurantium bergamia) , Sodium Chloride , Sodium Hydroxide , EDTA , Tetrasodium Etidronate , *Limonene , *Linalool , Lilial . *Occurs naturally in essential oils

00609

Description of the soap by lush > Revel in Sultana’s majesty, and have a wash with the royalty of soaps. It looks like a fancy Italian dessert; a giant nougat cake topped with succulent currants and apricots. Smooth a slice of our soft decadent soap all over your body for a creamy lather and the most dazzling bergamot and olibanum scent. Your skin will be delighted and you’ll be left softer and smelling like a fancy candy shop with a touch of fruity sweetness. If you weren’t invited to the wedding, at least you can brush shoulders with royalty in the shower.

My experience > I got a piece of this wonderful soap from Lush store in Vegas. I did not use this for almost an year and just kept it in a cloth pouch with my clothes, and trust me the smell did not reduce even a bit.

As you can see, this soap has dried apricots and cranberry in it and looks like a piece of cake. When you use it, it gives soft milky foam that just moisturises the skin along with cleaning it.

The fragrance just can’t be explained. I get a feeling that milk baths of Cleopatra might have smelled the same 😛

If you get a chance to go to Lush store, this is the soap to get.

A divine chocolate soap you will fall in love with

This was my very first purchase from Gayatri who is the owner, artisan and proud mother of cute little Georgia.

And let me tell you, there are only pros that follows in this review and no cons. The ingredients list and quality of this soap justifies the price.

Smell: Divine cocoa chocolate smell. Alternative to bathroom fresheners 😉 as the fragrance just lingers in the air when kept open.

Feel : It is an exfoliating bar that is highly moisturising as well as it has cocoa, milk, cream and liquid silk. Lathers well and doesn’t dry out the skin.
The exfoliating particles on it are not harsh on skin and gently cleanses away dry dead skin.

It lasted me almost a month.

The luxurious smell and decadent feel of this bathing bar on skin is truly divine. You don’t need to moisturise your skin after using this, unless your skin type is very dry.

For my combination skin this was a treat. My friend used it as well after my recommendation and she loved it.

VERDICT : Super awesome <3 <3 <3
